Giant wind turbines bid to be discussed
Concerns have been raised about plans to install two wind turbines near Stafford which would be considerably bigger than originally proposed.
The borough council had already given permission for two turbines on Seighford Lane which would have been 141 ft tall from the base to the tip of the highest blade.
But now plans have been re-entered for larger structures, one 186ft tall and one 200ft tall – eight times the height of an average two-storey house.
A planning report states the new bid is to 'maximise' how much energy can be generated at the site adding that additional turbines could not be installed due to the area's infrastructure.
Seighford and Church Eaton ward Councillor Stephen Leighton has called for the proposal to be decided by the council's planning committee.
He said: "I would like the committee to take a closer look at this and its impact on the rural location. The main concern is the height of this turbine and its overall size."
The board will discuss the matter tomorrow however the council's planning officers have recommended the application be given planning consent.
