Jason Lenton made sexually explicit comments to a 78-year-old who was walking her dog down West Bromwich Street, Caldmore, Wolverhampton Crown Court was told.

Then the 44-year-old approached another female dog walker soon and put his hands on her breast before grabbing the wrist of a third woman who was on her way home from work on February 1, explained Mr David Swinnerton, prosecuting.

The final victim broke free from the clutches of Lenton and phoned her husband after catching a bus. Police were alerted, went to the scene and arrested Lenton who lived in nearby Acacia Avenue, Walsall.

Mr Wykeham Garsia, defending, said: "He is deeply ashamed of his behaviour. There was no particular reason why he got so drunk. He had been drinking while watching television and became completely intoxicated."

Lenton was said to be the official carer for his brother and Mr Garsia explained: "He does his cleaning, cooking and helps sort out the household bills."

Lenton pleaded guilty to indecent touching as well as admitting using threatening words and behaviour. He was told by Judge Amjad Nawaz: "These are worrying offences. You were drunk and made a thorough nuisance of yourself, targeting loan females. You assaulted some of them sexually and and used explicit sexual words towards others.

"People should be able to walk their dog or catch a bus home from work without being accosted by drunk people like you. This is a busy thoroughfare with schools and shops nearby and it is impossible for many people to take another route. You say you are the carer of your brother but I find it difficult to imagine how you could possibly care for anybody in the state you were on that day. You were unable to recollect what you had done just a few hours earlier."

The judge continued: "These are not the most serious offences of their kind. You were not touching under clothing but, it escalates when looked at collectively. You have no previous convictions and I will give you the opportunity to learn from this but if you do not take it you will go to prison."

Lenton received a three-year community order on condition he attends both the sex offenders programme and an alcohol education course.
