City of Wolverhampton College up for national award

City of Wolverhampton College has been shortlisted for a national award in recognition of its turnaround over the last few years.

Two years ago the college was graded as inadequate by Ofsted and was struggling to combat funding cuts.

In response, the college's human resources team introduced a number of measures to transform the culture of the college and help it improve.

These included developing links with local employees, improving communications amongst staff, building relationships with unions and creating a new brand for recruitment activity.

As a result the college is now used by the Association of Colleges as an example of best practice for engagement and was recently awarded the prestigious Investors in People gold award.

The college's HR department has now been nominated for Personnel Today's Award for Managing Change.

HR Director Karen O'Reilly said: "I'm delighted that the HR department has been recognised for the way it helped bring about organisational change and contributed to the massive turnaround the college has experienced over the last few years."

The college will find out if it has won the award at a ceremony in London later this year.
