Scott Dobson would not accept that the seven month relationship was at an end and pestered his former girlfriend to give him a second chance.

But the unwanted advances turned to frightening harassment after she refused to respond, Wolverhampton Crown Court was told. The 25-year-old had a restraining order slapped on him banning him from having any contact with the young woman or going near her Wolverhampton home.

Dobson was jailed but continued to break the terms of the order by sending three letters to her from his prison cell.

She did not tell police what had happened until he sent 24 text messages to her within three days of being released.

Mr Patrick Sullivan, prosecuting, said: "They were imploring letters begging her to come back into his life.

"The tone of the texts was the same at the beginning but he became increasingly upset when she did not respond."

Mr Jasvir Mann, defending, said: "He became unpleasant when he did not receive any satisfaction. It was a cherished seven month relationship. He could not accept that it had ended and insisted that he still loved her. Now he understands it is over. He has no intention of contacting her again."

Dobson, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to two charges of breaking the terms of the restraining order by sending the letters between February 11 and April 29 and sending text messages from May 4 to May 7.

He was jailed by Judge John Warner this week, who also imposed an indefinite restraining order. Judge Warner told him: "The victim has understandably been frightened by the way you behaved towards her.

"No matter what the relationship was, it is over and you must recognise she wants nothing more to do with you."
