Body found in Wolverhampton canal believed to be that of missing man

A body recovered in a stretch of canal in Wolverhampton this morning is believed to be that of missing Wednesfield man Simon Wilkes.

Mr Wilkes, 45, left his work place in Ettingshall Road at 4.30pm yesterday, but did not arrive at his home in Wood End Road.

Officers, family members and friends had been retracing his cycling route to work and at around 10.30am a body was found.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and the matter will now be passed to the coroner.
