The pedestrian gates opposite Lenwade Road and Grove Road had been due to be locked between the hours of 6pm and 9am starting from today.

But Warley Woods Community Trust has now decided to wait after concerns were raised by park users. A public meeting will now take place on Wednesday at 7pm in the park's pavilion.

A statement from the trustees said: "We have been asked if we can consult with members of the community before implementing the proposals to see if there are other alternatives.

"We would like to see if there are solutions other than locking the gates but this does depend on additional support and ideas from the community."

Warley Woods Community Trust manager Viv Cole said there had been a spate of vandalism on the golf course during recent months, prompting the group to take action.

Bosses say the damage has left them out of pocket because of repeatedly having to clear up after the vandals and fear it will put golfers off visiting the course.
