WATCH: See the moment of horror as shots fired at family home in West Bromwich

A mother has spoken of her horror after shots were fired at the family home where her two young children were sleeping. The four-year-old boy and his one-year-old sister were in an upstairs front bedroom.

The window of their bedroom was smashed in the drive-by attack and the family's car was also damaged by pellets believed to have been fired by occupants of a BMW. The shooting at the semi-detached premises in Shaftesbury Street, West Bromwich, was captured on security cameras and now the family hope the images will help bring the perpetrators to justice.

The footage shows a car passing the house and the sound of shots is heard as it continues along the road towards the junction with High Street at Carters Green.

Mother-of-two Lucy Taylor, aged 25, said: "It was just after 2am when I heard a noise that woke me up. It sounded like breaking glass so I nudged my partner and said somebody was having a go at the car outside.

"When we ran downstairs to look we didn't see anyone.

"We thought maybe a brick or a baseball bat had been used to put the car window through and we phoned the police to report it, but when we checked the security cameras we saw this car rolling by and then the shooting noise.

"That's when we realised the house had been shot at. It was a big shock. We don't know why someone would do this."

"It was so lucky that my kids were not hit by the glass or the pellets, which smashed through the bedroom window," she said.

"We don't feel it's safe here anymore. I'm having trouble sleeping as a result of what's happened. We don't know who would do it and why. I just hope that the police can get to the bottom of it. Some firearms officers came to investigate.

"The car involved had driven past the house twice in the space of about 45 minutes before the shooting," she added. The incident happened in the early hours of July 18.

West Midlands Police spokeswoman Deb Edmonds said: "There were no confirmed sightings of a firearm but a vehicle was spotted leaving the area shortly afterwards.

"Damage to a vehicle windscreen and an upstairs bedroom window were reported," she said.
