Family flee home after Quarry Bank blaze

A family were forced to flee their home in Quarry Bank after a fire broke out and spread through the house.

Two dogs were rescued by firefighters from the property in Thorn Hill Road last night.

A concerned resident rang 999 after seeing smoking coming from the semi-detached house.

When fire crews arrived at around 6.15pm, they found the family had been able to escape unharmed. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the blaze which has caused extensive damage to rooms on the ground and first floors.

West Midlands Fire Service said no one was injured and the fire was out by 6.45pm.

The cause of the fire is not known and an investigation has been launched by the fire service.
