Ngonidzashe and Precious Kandare, aged 29 and 37 respectively, will appear at Nottingham Crown Court on November 9.

The couple from South Avenue, Wednesfield, both deny murder, an alternative charge of manslaughter and a further allegation of causing or allowing the death of a child.

They were arrested after the death of Rebecca Kandare on January 6 last year.

The girl was taken to New Cross Hospital and died a short time later.

A post mortem examination revealed the child suffered with rickets and died from pneumonia as a result of severe malnourishment.

The husband and wife were both remanded in custody when they appeared at Wolverhampton Crown Court yesterday until the start of the trial that is expected to last up to six weeks.
