Paramedics tried to save the 18-year-old motorcyclist, named locally as Suhail Yousaf, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident happened on the A457 Tollhouse Way/Soho Way near the junction with Alma Street on Saturday.

Paramedics found him with serious injuries at around 1.40pm.

Suhail is believed to have been studying IT and business at Sandwell College.

His family are being supported by specially trained police officers.

West Midlands Police spokesman Alan Wood, from the West Midlands Police's Collision Investigation Team, said: "It's unclear exactly what led up to the collision and I'd urge anyone who saw what happened to contact me on the 101 number.

"Any fatal road crash is dreadful but this is particularly sad given that such a young man has lost his life."

The road reopened at around 5.30pm.
