Lucky escape for driver after car overturns in Wordsley

A man was lucky to escape with cuts and bruises after his car overturned after hitting a van in Wordsley.

The Ford KA flipped onto its roof in the crash before coming to rest against a minibus this morning.

Wordsley high street was closed outside The Rose and Crown pub at the junction of Kinver Street following the smash.

Traffic jams were caused in the area following the crash which happened at around 9am.

The man had managed to scramble from the stricken car by the time firefighters from Brierley Hill station arrived.

He was treated at the scene for cuts and bruises but did not require hospital treatment.

Police blocked off the road for more than a hour to allow for the recovery of the car.

Bus services also had to be diverted as tailbacks built up in the aftermath of the smash.

National Express advised customers through social media of changes to bus routes in the area.

Services 256 and 257 taking people to and from Stourbridge were taken on alternative routes while the crash was cleared.

Crew commander Mark Harris, from Brierley Hill fire station said: "The man had already got of the car when we arrived and luckily suffered just cuts and bruises.

"The road was closed for a while.

"The car had come to rest against a minibus. There was just the driver and one child on board but they were uninjured.

"We were there around 45 minutes. They use a crane to lift the car and take it away."

Paramedics in a single ambulance attended to check over those at the scene.

The car had suffered damage to the roof and front end with scrape marks down the drivers side.

The wing mirror had also been bent.

The cause of the accident is being investigated.
