Hero Walsall pensioner dies saving girls from sea

A hero Walsall pensioner has died trying to save the lives of two teenage girls in trouble in the sea.

The 74-year-old, named unofficially as Richard Guest, believed to be from Walsall, drowned after rushing into the water in Wales on Saturday.

He was recovered unconscious from the water by RNLI crews but later died while in hospital.

The girls and a second man who also tried to help them were rescued rescued and the teenagers taken to hospital.

Mr Guest's son Gareth, from Walsall, paid tribute to him on Facebook.

He wrote: "Unfortunately my dad, aged 74, drowned after he'd helped save two girls who were in difficulty. Everyone has been very kind. He was that kind of person.

"I am going to miss him very much, as is the rest of my family."

Daughter Ceri Donovan added: "We are devastated by what has happened to my dad.

"Thanks for the kind words x."

The tragedy happened at the coastal resort of Tywyn, north-west Wales.
