The crash, which involved a white Honda motorbike and a white Ford van, happened shortly before 7pm on Tuesday.

As a result of the collision, the rider of the motorbike came off his bike and sadly, despite the efforts of passers-by and ambulance staff, his injuries proved fatal.

Sergeant Alan Wood, from the Regional Collision Investigation Unit, said: "Enquiries into the collision are still in in their early stages, and I am keen to trace any additional witnesses who have not yet provided their details to us.

"The family of the man have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this time."

The driver was spoken to at the scene and enquiries are on-going.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is urged to call Sergeant Wood on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
