Four injured as car crashes into brook in Walsall

A woman and three children were injured after their car crashed into a river in Walsall.

The four were helped out of their car by a passer-by shortly after the incident occurred at 7.40pm yesterday evening near to the retail park and Banks's Stadium in Bescot Crescent.

Jamie Arrowsmith, a West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman, said: "Crews arrived to find a car that had come to rest in a river. All four patients were out of the vehicle and on the embankment, having been helped to safety by passers-by.

"There were four female patients. The driver, a woman in her 30s was treated for a cut to the head and minor neck pain.

"An 11-year-old girl was treated for an injury to her forehead and a suspected fractured leg.

"A 12-year-old girl was also treated for an injury to her forehead as well as wrist, knee and ankle pain. She was also treated for back pain and as a result was immobilised with the use of a neck collar and spinal board.

"Finally, a five-year-old girl was treated for injuries to her nose and lips as well as to her forehead.

"All four patients were then taken to Walsall Manor for further treatment."
