Despite the rain and grey skies, scores of people put on their helmets and cycling shorts to take part in Brewood Cycle Challenge, organised to help the village's Scout group which faced being forced out of its home in 2008.

Race organiser and Scout group leader Ian Morris said: "The very unfortunate wet weather didn't manage to dampen the enthusiasm of the riders, who we would like to thank wholeheartedly for their support.

"From what we heard the feed stations were well supported and the vast amount of cakes on sale went down well, as did the Chase Jazzmen performing at the finish line.

"Thanks must go out to all the helpers and to the mechanics, Dennis and Matt.

"We will have another go at running the event next year, we hope that it can't rain on us three times in a row."#

The event was put together by the Brewood Scouts Fundraisers, which also organises popular event the Brewood Woggle, a 10k run held in September.

South Staffordshire MP Gavin Williamson also took part in the cycle challenge, which offered a variety of short and long distances courses for people to take on.
