Drivers told to expect M6 delays due to hard shoulder closure

Delays are expected on the M6 in the Black Country tomorrow with the hard shoulder out of action on some of the busiest sections of the motorway.

Vehicles are normally allowed to use the hard shoulder on parts of the motorway at the busiest times to keep traffic moving but a fault with motorway cameras means it cannot be used.

Both directions between junctions six and seven near Great Barr and southbound between 10 and 10a at Walsall expected to be worst affected.

Highways chief says the cameras are vital to ensuring the hard shoulder is used safely.

Motorists have been warned to expect delays in the area and are advised to add more time to their journeys.

A Highways England spokesman said: "We are doing everything we can to rectify the situation as quickly as possible.

"We treat the safety of drivers who use our roads with the utmost importance and it would be irresponsible if sections of the hard shoulder were opened to traffic with the cameras out of operation.

"We apologise for any disruption that this may cause to people's journeys and encourage drivers plan their journeys before setting off tomorrow morning so they can avoid any delays."
