Leanjane Mushuku stabbed 35 year old Adama Konate in the neck at a hostel for immigrants where they were living in Walpole Street, Whitmore Reans.

The Zimbabwean born 41-year-old lashed out after warning 'If you don't leave my boyfriend alone I will kill you,' explained Mr John Evans, prosecuting.

She was furious after seeing the other woman talking to the man while 'improperly dressed' and the victim needed hospital treatment to the lacerations caused to her neck following the October 2013 attack.

Miss Sally Hancox defending revealed Mushuku was still waiting for a final decision on her right to remain in this country nine years after being jailed for 18 months for an immigration offence.

Since then she has been shuttled around supervised accommodation throughout the Midlands and is currently living in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent but had maintained contact with the border agencies while existing on vouchers and whatever funds she was allowed to earn from employers

Miss Hancox concluded: "She is still in the limbo she has been in for all that time. She is living in the bubble those people who are in her position live in."

Mushuku admitted wounding and received a 15 month prison sentence suspended under supervision for two years with 120 hours unpaid work and a three month night time curfew.

Judge Nicholas Webb commented: "It is unacceptable that your status has not been resolved - either by you being granted asylum or returned to the country of your origin."

He said the attack was borne out of either jealousy or a misunderstanding and concluded: "I am prepared to accept you lost your temper because she had spoken to your boyfriend when you thought she was improperly dressed."
