Wolverhampton drugs den closed down

A Wolverhampton drugs den which blighted the lives of residents has been closed by police.

The address was brought to the attention of police when neighbours reported suspected drug dealing and anti-social behaviour, which had been taking place for several months.

The flat on Merridale Lane in the Park area of the city was officially closed on Monday after officers secured a closure order from magistrates.

Armed with these testimonies and police intelligence built-up around the address, officers raided the flat on May 7.

The results of the raid and information from housing officials and others ensured officers had enough evidence to secure a three month closure order.

The order, granted at Wolverhampton Magistrates' Court, makes it a criminal offence for anybody to enter the address unless authorised by police.

All windows and doors are now set to be boarded up.

Sergeant Kevin Whitehouse, from the Park and St Peters neighbourhood policing team, said: "We have worked closely with housing officers and other partners to resolve this problem as swiftly as possible.

"Officers will closely monitor the situation for any breaches. If further problems arise then we will be able to tackle these quickly.

"This closure sends out a clear message to criminals - if you allow your property to be used for the distribution or consumption of drugs we will use all of the powers available to us to stop you."

Anyone who suspects drug use or any suspicious activity in their neighbourhood should call police on 101 or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111
