Walsall pedestrian suffers head injuries after collision with car

A pedestrian suffered cuts to his head when he was struck by a car on a busy road in Walsall during rush hour.

The unnamed man, 33, was hurt during the collision, in Bentley Lane, Birchills, near the junction with Pargeter Street and Old Birchills.

Emergency crews were called to the scene shortly before 8.05am this morning.

West Midlands Police said the man was taken to Walsall Manor Hospital but his injuries were not thought to be life threatening.

Bentley Lane was closed to traffic for about three hours, while and motorists and the number 40 and 41 National Express West Midland buses were diverted to surrounding streets.

A Birchills resident, who did not want to be named, said: "It's traffic mayhem around here. All the side streets including Edward Street, are full of cars trying to get round the estate."
