The organisation which runs New Cross Hospital has become the first of its kind in the UK to launch a revolutionary new app for staff and patients about the services it runs.

Details of all the Royal Wolverhampton Trust services can now be found by users just pointing their mobile phone or tablet device at triggers placed throughout the hospital sites and at photos in the Trust's 'Your Hospital' magazine.

The RWT AR app can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play stores, free of charge. All people have to do is point it at a photo, poster or logo – wherever they see a 'scan photo for video' symbol. The app recognises the image and launches content including video, downloads and opportunities to many different things using interactive buttons on the touch screen.

It uses a technology called Augmented Reality, which is also used by major retailers and manufacturers.

Richard Radcliffe, Royal Wolverhampton Trust head of communications, said: "We know a growing number of our patients want to keep up to date with the products and services they use through their mobile devices.

"So we've launched this app to enable them to do just that.

"People turning up at A&E or the maternity hospital or the Cannock Chase site can find out more about what's on offer there just by pointing their phone at our special posters."
