West Mercia Police and Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service have yet to confirm the cause of yesterday's fire at The Mill Hotel, at Allum Bridge, in Alveley, near Bridgnorth.

But officers are appealing for any witnesses to come forward as they try to piece together what happened.

Emergency services were called to the scene at about 5am yesterday and were still there today damping down the building which was still smoking.

It is not believe that anyone was injured or even in the building during the incident but searches are still being conducted throughout the former hotel and wedding venue.

Abbey Hartley, West Mercia Police spokeswoman, said: "Police are eager to establish the circumstances of the fire and are urging anyone with information to come forward, as well as anyone who knows somebody who frequents the building.

"If you saw any suspicious activity in the area at the time, please call police."

Anyone with information should call the force on 101, quoting incident 37S of Monday, May 18, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 or through crimestoppers-uk.org
