Walsall Manor Hospital nurses to be homegrown

Up to 50 of the nurses being recruited as part of a £3.5 million investment at Walsall Manor will come from the region, health chiefs have said.

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is to bring in 85 registered nurses and has admitted it will need to recruit from other countries like Greece, Italy and Spain due to a shortage of qualified nurses.

But bosses have said they hope to bring in most from the local area, and have already found 10 former nurses wanting to return to the job. Director of nursing Kathryn Halford said applicants' ability to speak English well would be assessed.
