Crews were alerted to the blaze at around 8.45pm tonight and firefighters from Cannock and Penkridge are currently at the scene off Wolverhampton Road battling the flames.

Station manager Bob Preston said: "The fire is not quite out yet but its under control.

"It is a derelict site with a few old buildings. The fire is in an old brick stable block.

"We have been to this building before to tackle a fire but it was about three years ago.

"It is potentially a deliberate act.

"Because of the nature of the building and because it is structurally unsound it is unsafe to go inside so we are tackling it from outside.

"There is a lot of birckwork, rubble and rubbish as well as the fact there is no roof means we won't be going inside.

"But it isn't going anywhere."

At around 10pm Mr Preston said crews would be at the scene for at least another hour.
