Mark Noon also sent 23 messages on smartphone application Whatsapp to his former lover from Walsall between 3.10pm and 5.10pm on Saturday, April 11.

The 32-year-old, of Old Stafford Road in Featherstone, claimed he was trying to make arrangements to see his daughter on the day but admitted he had acted inappropriately. He was fined £50 at Walsall Magistrates Court on Monday and ordered to pay £85 in court costs as well as a £60 victim surcharge.

Noon was also given a 12 month restraining order and told he must stay away from the woman's home address, her place of work and her mother's house, who he also tried calling on the day.

On the morning of April 11 he turned up unannounced at his ex-girlfriend's house and stood outside the gates. He tried to give the pair's six-year-old daughter an iPhone 6 but the mother refused it saying she was too young for the phone, the court heard.

After the woman dropped her daughter off somewhere and carried on to work, Noon began sending text messages to her.

She replied saying she had been in contact with the police who had advised him to leave her alone. But Noon persisted and sent a further four texts. It was then in the afternoon that he bombarded her with calls and messages in the two-hour period. Mr Mark Cooper, prosecuting, told the court when Noon was arrested he told police he and his ex-girlfriend had recently got back together, but she had kicked him out again. Mr Cooper said: "He said he was angry at the circumstances and just wanted to see his daughter.

"He believed his actions were reasonable."

Mr Noon, who was unrepresented, told magistrates: "I had reason to do it.

"I accept I did it in the wrong way."
