About 60 at the Carcraft site in Darlaston Road, Wednesbury, were among the more than 500 that lost their jobs at its 10 sites around the country.

Andy Coulthurst, who was Carcraft sales director until 2008, and Robin Bridge, who was chief executive until last year, are using their contacts in the industry to help the newly unemployed through www.face book.com/carcraftpeople – and KBL Employment Law has also set up a Facebook page offering advice, which is called 'Carcraft Redundancy Support Page'.

Mr Bridge said: "There's men and women who have worked at Carcraft for more than 30 years, so for me to learn it was all over was devastating. I have had people in tears on the phone and we wanted to help."

The pair have had about 80 CVs from former workers and 100 job advertisements from across the car dealership industry for a variety of roles including finance, IT, car valeting and mechanics.

Mr Coulthurst is now managing director of car buy-and-sell site motors.co.uk, while Mr Bridge is director of Vehicle Trading Group.

Carcraft, which was headquartered in Rochdale, had made a loss of more than £13 million over 18 months.
