From traditional remembrance services to old-fashioned street parties, similar to those held when Victory in Europe was declared in 1945, there is no shortage of places where people can pay their respects locally.

In Wolverhampton the Royal British Legion members are holding their annual VE Day service at the cenotaph in St Peter's Square, on Friday. Veterans will join civic dignitaries and members of the public for the ceremony which starts at 11.30am.

The Wednesfield Royal British Legion, on Vicarage Road in the town, will be hosting a dance and a raffle to mark the anniversary, with Mecca Bingo in Bilston offering people a free wartime CD, a slice of Victoria sponge cake and a hot cup of tea at their VE Day Vintage Bingo event.

While at the Sunrise care home on Wergs Road, Tettenhall, staff and residents are also holding a party complete with a 1940s-style singer on Friday.

And in Sandwell a beacon will be lit on the Rowley Hills on Friday night – one of 200 being ignited across the country.

Celebrations will be held at the Black Country Living Museum in Dudley on Saturday.

A Winston Churchill lookalike will perform Churchill's electrifying victory speech while people can make their own bunting to be used as decorations for a traditional street celebration. Visitors can also meet the US First Infantry at the museum's Folkes' Park – where historic military vehicles and equipment will be on display. Commemorations at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire will start at 9am on Sunday with a short service of remembrance.

This will be followed by a vintage-style street party including 1940s music, a vintage and handmade goods market, flag-making and game, as well as Second World War memorial guided walks. There will also be remembrance services in Oldbury's Civic Square and Top Church, St Thomas and St Luke, in Dudley.
