The wreckage of the 26-year-old's Ford Mondeo was found a short time after the attack in the early hours of yesterday morning, crashed into parked cars in Dibdale Road, Kingswinford.

Emergency services were called to Ham Lane at 12.40am when the woman was forced to stop for a dark hatchback car which pulled up in front of her.

One of the men from the car ran out and jumped into the back seat while another dragged her from the '14' plate Ford before jumping into the driver's seat.

The robber then reversed, with the driver's door open – hitting his victim in the process and driving over her leg as he made his speedy exit from the scene.

Both cars were driven off towards Gornal, leaving the woman at the side of the road, needing treatment to a leg injury.

Less than 10 minutes later, residents of Dibdale Road called police when the Mondeo crashed into three parked cars and the two occupants fled from the scene.

Local officers scoured the area and at around 1am stopped two men, aged 19 and 20, in Limepit Lane. They were subsequently arrested on suspicion of robbery and yesterday afternoon the pair were released on bail until the end of May.

Detective Inspector Nigel Smith, of Dudley Police, said: "This was a nasty robbery, which left a young woman injured and extremely shaken.

"The offenders crashed the stolen Mondeo, causing significant damage and it is surprising no one was seriously hurt.

"Searches of the local area led to the quick arrest of two suspects and they are now in custody helping with enquiries.

"We would be keen to hear from anyone who saw the Mondeo or a dark blue hatchback in the area of Ham Lane, Stallings Lane or Gornal between 12.40am and 1am this morning as they may be able to help with our enquiries."

Anyone with information to assist the police inquiry should call Dudley Police investigation team, by dialling 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
