Train windscreen smashed after object thrown from bridge

A windscreen was smashed on a train travelling through Staffordshire after an object was thrown from a railway bridge.

The unknown object, which was thrown from a bridge in Wolverhampton Road, Stafford, smashed the windscreen on an empty Virgin train, which was being pulled along by a diesel locomotive.

The train had been travelling from Crewe to Wembley.

Network Rail said there was minimal disruption caused for other passengers travelling on the rail line.

Nobody was injured as a result of the incident, which happened at around 10.15pm yesterday.
