Nine in court charged with drugs offences after Sandwell dawn raids

Nine men have appeared in court charged with drugs offences after a series of dawn raids in Sandwell.

The nine men were arrested as officers carried out drugs warrants as part of the Safer Six campaign designed to drive down crime levels across the borough.

All appeared at Birmingham Magistrates Court today to hear the allegations against them.

A 48-year-old woman who was also arrested yesterday has been bailed pending further investigation.

Details of those charged:

  • Dion Christopher Dixon, 31 of Wedgbury Close, Wednesbury charged with conspiracy to supply a class A controlled drug.

  • Mark William George Wilkes, 31 of Pavillion Avenue in Smethwick, charged with conspiracy to supply a class A controlled drug.

  • Issam Ali Irfan, 26 of Dale Street in Wednesbury, charged with conspiring to supply a class A controlled drug.

  • Keith Michael Patrick Melia, 51 of Windmill Street in Wednesbury, charged with conspiracy to supply a class A drug, conspiracy to supply a class B drug and producing a class B drug.

  • Jaspal Singh Johal, 40 of Langdon Gardens in Oldbury, charged with conspiracy to supply a class A drug and conspiracy to supply a class B drug.

  • Martyn John Rawle, 31 of Willows Close in Cradley Heath, charged with supplying a controlled class A drug.

  • Mahboob Raja Walayat, 24 of Westminster Road in Handsworth, charged with conspiring to supply a class A drug.

  • Reece Roberts, 22 of Primrose Lane in Scotlands, charged with conspiracy to supply a class A drug and possession with intent to supply a class A drug.

  • Arfan Zafar, 25 of Archibald Road, charged with conspiracy to supply a class A drug.

All of the men, apart from Michael Wilkes, were remanded in custody following the hearing.

Wilkes was released on court bail.
