The King Charles pub in Cromwell Road, Bushbury, which had become a target for anti-social behaviour, will be demolished to make way for 14 new houses after an application submitted by Malvern Estates was accepted by the city council.

Cllr Ian Angus

Councillor Ian Angus, who represents Bushbury North, has said he hopes the developers start work on the site soon.

He said: "We are now pressing the developers to kick on with demolition and house building as soon as possible.

"Derelict pubs quickly become an eyesore and attract all sorts of problems."

The pub closed its doors for the final time last month and Councillor Angus has said that its closure will also prove beneficial to other areas of the community.

He said: "As part of the planning application we insisted on a Section 106 agreement which will see the developer make a financial contribution to enhance facilities in the local area.

"The monies from this development will be merged with other 106 funds to improve play facilities for children at Northwood Park and Bushbury Recreation Ground."
