Spicy Land in Harden Road was ordered to shut after a hygiene prohibition order was served by Walsall Council's environmental health team.

The notice was confirmed at Walsall Magistrates Court yesterday, meaning the restaurant will remain closed until officers are satisfied any risk to the public has been removed.

Neil Harris, principal environmental health officer, said: "Mice can carry many infectious diseases, such as salmonella and E.coli and can damage food stocks and premises."

He added regular inspections were carried out at all businesses across the borough which prepare, serve and sell food.
