The 44-year-old has been in hospital since he was brutally attacked after the club's game against Wolves at Molineux on March 7.

The Golden Lion Pub, Watford, hosted an event on Sunday featuring live music, a BBQ, bouncy castle, and auction featuring signed football memorabilia from a range of clubs including Watford, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, and match tickets. The pub said it was a 'brilliant' day with about 150 people.

The event raised about £1,500 which will be given directly to Mr Cruwys, his wife and their two young children.

Staff at the pub said they are all Watford locals and the cause is something they hold close to their hearts: "Nic is one of our own and we want to host a day that will help him and his family in a time of need."

An online Go Fund Me campaign for Mr Cruwys set up by teenage Wolves supporter Ollie Floyd has raised more than £37,000 so far, smashing its initial fundraising target of £1,000 and attracting donations from more than 2,400 people.

Mr Cruwys was set upon as he walked to Wolverhampton train station after watching the 2-2 draw.

Seven people, aged between 13 and 18, have been arrested and bailed in connection with the assault, and police continue to appeal for information on the 'unprovoked attack'.

Mr Cruwys' family revealed last week he has made progress they could 'only have dreamt about', and is conscious and walking with some assistance in hospital.
