WATCH: Max the dog becomes internet sensation after Britain's Got Talent Ant attack

He was supposed to sing and dance on stage when prompted by his owner David Duffield.

But Max the adorable Yorkshire Terrier had other things on his mind on the opening episode of Britain's Got Talent on Saturday night - one of those being to attack one half of Geordie duo Ant and Dec.

Rather than strutting his stuff on stage, the six-year-old pooch made a beeline for Ant, barking at him and snapping at his ankles.

Since his hilarious antics were shown on the much loved talent ITV1 show, Max has become a hit on social media and now even has his own hashtag - #AntAttackedByDog

And a video of Max's no show has already had more than 75,000 views on YouTube.

Van driver Mr Duffield, who lives in Willenhall, said his pet's disappearing act on stage was a huge disappointment at the time but admitted he was pleasantly surprised at his new found fame.

"We'd been at the venue from midday and didn't leave until 11.30pm," he said. "When we finally got onto the stage, I don't really know what happened.

"He just went for Ant. Dec was laughing his head off but he didn't bother at all with him.

"He attacked Ant about three or four times. He didn't do what he was supposed to do on the stage."

It was the second time Max had crumbled under the pressure on stage. Mr Duffield auditioned for BGT in 2010 and a similar thing happened when Max failed to perform. They were buzzed off stage by judges Louis Walsh, Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan.

Max the dog's audition in 2010:

Mr Duffield auditioned with his son Daniel, who was nine years old at the time and is now aged 15.

Max was supposed to dance on stage and sing when prompted by Mr Duffield, a talent that was discovered five years ago, but both times now he has been distracted and failed to show off his unique talent.

Mr Duffield continued: "I was watching Corrie one day and I had a harmonica. I just started playing it for a laugh.

"Max started making funny noises. Then he started dancing.

"I was really disappointed when Max failed to do that on stage this year. But since then it's gone mad on Twitter. Since the show went out my son Daniel has had an extra 15,000 Twitter followers.

"People have been coming up to me in the street. We went to Morrison's and one of the women on the tills was starring at me.

"I spoke to her and told her I'd been on the show and she said she knew she recognised me from somewhere. People have been asking for my autograph in the street."

Mr Duffield, aged 50, got the thumbs up from media mogul Simon Cowell and singer Alesha Dixon but failed to impress presenter Amanda Holden and funnyman David Wallaims.

He added: "I thought we might get through but we didn't which is a shame.

"I spoke to Alesha and Amanda and told them they were both beautiful. David spoke to me after I'd been on stage to say good luck in my new job. All the judges were really nice.

"Ant even picked Max up afterwards and they were then friends.

I'm definitely going to apply to be on the show again next year. This time though I'll make sure I keep Max on a lead so he can't attack anyone.

"At home he's a friendly little dog although does watch people out of the window and bark at them."

Other acts that stole the limelight at the weekend were roller skaters Billy and Emily England from the West Midlands, talking dog act Metral and Wendy and professional comb player Narinder Dhanni, a 42-year-old IT consultant from London, who performed a rendition of songs on his comb.

Past winners of Britain's Got Talent include dance act Diversity, Paul Potts and last year's champions Callabro, while the show has also launched the careers of the likes of Susan Boyle.
