Pair arrested after two men hurt in street brawl

Two men have been arrested after violence flared in an Essington street.

Police were called to Hill Street following reports of a disturbance outside a South Staffordshire Housing Association building.

A 30-year-old man from Coseley and a 28-year-old man from Wolverhampton were arrested on suspicion of affray, assault and GBH.

Yesterday, both men were held in police custody for questioning.

Two local men were injured in the incident. They both declined hospital treatment. It happened at around 8pm on Monday

Councillor David Clifft, who represents Essington on South Staffordshire Council, said residents were left stunned by the incident.

He said: "People are in shock at the intensity of the attack.

"A lot of residents are fearful. They are not used to seeing this type of thing happen in the area."
