Around £3 million is to be ploughed into a new glass entrance and extending the centre to create five large stores.

It forms part of the next stage of the transformation of the overall revamp of the Old Square which is already due to see Primark and Co-op open this summer.

The regeneration of the shopping centre which is owned by Threadneedle is a key redevelopment within the heart of the borough.

There are also plans for two new cinema complexes and council regeneration chief, Mohammed Nazir, said he welcomed investment into the town.
