Martyn Matthews, from Bushbury, was one of the 150 people killed in the Germanwings air disaster.

Mike Lloyd, the brother-in-law of the 50-year-old father of two declared: "Overnight, our normal family life has been shattered."

But he added: "On behalf of the family I would like to thank all of the Wolves fans and the club for their kind words and thoughts over the last few days.

"We have been overwhelmed with your kindness, warmth and generosity that we have received during this distressing time. It is a great comfort to see that there are so many people who genuinely care about our family. We are very touched. Thank you for being loyal supporters of the club and our family.

"Martyn was proud of being a lifelong Wolves supporter and I am sure he would be honoured to think that his team care about him and his family so much."

Mr Lloyd concluded: "We would like to reiterate our request for privacy as we try and come to terms and like to thank, in advance, people for their understanding and co-operation."

Wolves are proposing a number of ways to remember season ticket holder Mr Matthews including a minute's applause on the 50th minute of every home game until the end of the season.

The club are working with his family on more formal arrangements and the flags at Molineux have been flown at half-mast.

A post on Wolves-News on Facebook read: "Wolves fans across social media have been suggesting a minute's applause in the 50th minute of our next home game versus Leeds as a mark of respect for the 50-year-old dad of two. Please feel free to 'like' and 'share' this post to get the news around. Let's make this happen! RIP."
