Bristnall councillor Lucy Cashmore did not declare her employment and Wednesbury North councillor Tony Meehan did not disclose an interest in the property where he lived, an audit investigation found.

Neeraj Sharma, director of governance at Sandwell Council, said: "Both apologised for the error. There is no suggestion either gained financially or otherwise from their omission.

"The Standards Committee met and decided to take no further action with regards to this matter.

"We will be strengthening our processes to make sure that mistakes like these don't occur in the future."

Last September Oldbury Councillor Mahboob Hussain apologised after it was revealed he had failed to declare a business interest in Five Star Taxis, which was awarded contracts by Sandwell Council.

He has subsequently stood down as deputy leader and Councillor Ian Jones also resigned from the cabinet while investigations take place into allegations concerning the sale of council land.
