Shortly after this footage was released, a man contacted the police saying he may know the identity of the men caught on camera.

However, the man did not leave a contact number and officers are appealing for him to get back in contact and speak to police again.

The footage shows two men with a bag, from which the gun appears to be pulled.

One climbs a wall and moves out of frame.

He then vaults the wall back on to the pavement and the pair walk off.

Police went to the area and recovered a shotgun from the scene.

The footage was filmed just after midnight on Cannon Hill Road, Balsall Heath, Birmingham, on November 2, 2014.

The CCTV clip was released by West Midlands Police on March 6.

Enquiries are on-going and the gun has been sent for forensic testing to see whether it has been used in any recent crime.

DI Gary Plant from Force CID said: "I really need this caller to get back in touch as he may have vital information about this incident. Enquiries are on-going to see whether the firearm has been used, but we really need to hear from anyone who may recognise these men; both men left the scene after leaving the gun in a plastic bag that they took from inside a carpenter's type work bag. I'm confident someone out there will know who they are."

"I also want to hear from anyone who was in the area in the very early hours of November 2 - we know from CCTV that a number of cars were driving past."

Anyone with information should contact Force CID on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
