Two in court after violence at West Bromwich Albion v Aston Villa match

Two men have appeared in court in connection with violence which erupted at a match between Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion earlier this month.

Matthew Jon Fox, 27, of Penfields Road, Stourbridge, pleaded not guilty to a charge of assaulting a police officer at the game at Villa Park on March 7.

And Walsall designer Matthew Peter Owen, 37, of Brindle Road, Walsall, pleaded not guilty to using threatening language with intent after he was arrested outside the ground.

Both defendants appeared separately before Birmingham Magistrates Court.

Fox, a serving Royal Marine who has completed four tours of duty in Afghanistan, was bailed until June 12 while Owen will return on March 27.
