Four Birmingham men have been jailed after two Birmingham brawls left a man blinded in one eye, and another suffering multiple injuries.

The four thugs were enjoying a night out in Nuvo Bar, Brindley Place, where one of them had paid £400 to reserve a table in the upstairs VIP area.

When the main bar closed a 22-year-old man and his friends were asked to move upstairs to the VIP area.

However, a fight broke out between the two groups, and during the melee the 22-year-old was slashed across the face with a champagne flute by Theodore Mullings-Fairweather who then repeatedly kicked and stamped on the man as he lay injured on the floor.

His injuries were so severe he lost the sight in his left eye.

A friend of the 22-year-old was also attacked.

Antonio Singh Boparan – who had paid to secure the table – left the club with Mullings-Fairweather and fellow thugs Edward Ansah and Nathan Pringle.

But as they walked into Brunswick Street the group saw a 31-year-old man in the street with his shirt ripped. Assuming him to be part of the group involved in the fight, 25-year-old Mullings-Fairweather and 28-year-old Boparan punched and kicked him to the ground before running off.

The 31-year-old was rushed to hospital where he spent several days recovering from his multiple injuries from the assault in the early hours of Sunday, April 6, 2014.

Following an investigation Boparan was arrested at his home on Roman Lane, Little Aston, and Pringle from his house on Welshman's Hill in May.

Mullings-Fairweather, of Dawlish Road, Selly Oak, was arrested in August and charged with wounding, while 24-year-old Ansah, of Westwood Road, Sutton Coldfield, was identified by detectives as being involved in the attack and also charged

Boparan, Ansah and 32-year-old Pringle stood trial at Birmingham Crown Court last month with Mullings-Fairweather having already been convicted in December.

And at the same court today Mullings-Fairweather was jailed for eight years – plus another eight for an unrelated security guard cash robbery – while Pringle and Ansah were both handed 18-month jail terms for violent disorder.

Boparan was jailed for 12 months for violent disorder and assault.

DC Allan Jones led the inquiry. He said: "This was a violent attack which devastated the lives of two young men. Both needed extensive medical treatment and the 22-year-old has suffered permanent sight loss as a result of this group's actions.

"Nothing can change what happened but hopefully they can both take comfort in knowing that those responsible are now behind bars."
