Up to 50 new jobs are to be created in Cannock.

It comes after care provider, HaywardCare won a new contract with Cannock Chase Council.

Now, that the firm, based in Pye Green Road, has joined the authority's referrals list, it is looking to recruit more staff.

Managing director Carlton Hayward says the firm will need between 20-50 extra carers to carry out the work, which could almost triple its workforce.

He said: "This is a big deal for us and it's good news for carers looking for a job.

"Social care and health for the county has gone through reform recently. For the last five years, huge organisations have dominated the scene but under the new framework small and medium-care providers are being encouraged to apply for contracts."

The business was launched in 2013 as a sister company to Hayward Befriending, set up five years ago.

It has two assisted living properties, both in Cannock, and will be opening a third in the summer. The company currently has 40 clients on its books.

Mr Hayward, aged 38, said: "This will send our client list through the roof. We currently have 32 staff, so we will need a lot of extra help.

"We set up with the principle of personalisation. The old model was about clients fitting in with the provider's way of doing things. We've always been about building a package around the client.

"If someone normally gets up at 4am, then we will provide a carer to be there then, instead of telling the client, sorry we only do calls between 7am - 10am.

"Our befriending service means that clients can ask for a carer to play a game of bridge and have a cup of tea with them, for example, instead of just giving them their medication and leaving."

Mr Hayward is meeting with council officers next week to receive instructions.

He said anyone interested in a job with the provider should visit its website, www.haywardcare.org.uk, for details.
