A woman was lucky to escape with just minor smoke inhalation after her shower caught fire.

The woman had just gotten out of the shower at her home on Bishop's Walk in Halesowen when she noticed smoke coming from her bathroom shortly before 4.30pm.

Haden Cross fire station dispatched two fire engines and two firefighters using breathing apparatus used a fire extinguisher to put the fire out before it could do any damage to the surrounding bathroom.

Watch Commander Dan Griffiths, from Haden Cross, said: "When the lady first noticed the fire she did the right thing by shutting the door, calling us and then exiting the property, which we advise.

"The fire was extinguished very quickly and the lady was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene.

"It is not a common occurrence that people should worry about, but all electric showers come with an isolation switch that we advise using in between showers to prevent it from happening."
