Crews responded to the six-foot high blaze at the field off Lime Avenue in Bentley.

Firefighters using breathing apparatus took 90 minutes to extinguish the fire.

It is suspected the car was stolen before it was dumped in the field and set alight.

The fire service confirmed that the police were called to look into the matter further.

It happened on Sunday night at 9.16pm.

A spokesman from West Midlands Fire Service said: "One crew from Willenhall consisting of five personnel attended and the vehicle was well alight on arrival. Firefighters managed to put out the fire using breathing apparatus.

"Because of the nature of how the vehicle was discovered the police were called."

Yesterday, police could not confirm whether the fire was an arson attempt or if the incident was connected to any recent vehicle thefts.
