A car which had failed to stop for officers was involved in the smash in Newhampton Road West.

The car fled from officers in Steelhouse Lane.

A pursuit through the streets of Wolverhampton lasted around 10 minutes before the crash.

People in the other two cars caught up in the drama are thought to have suffered minor injuries only.

West Midlands Police confirmed a man and a woman who were in the car they were pursuing had been arrested.

Police spokesman Pete Edney said: "A vehicle failed to stop for us in Steelhouse Lane at 10.15am.

"A short pursuit lasting about 10 minutes resulted in a three-car collision near the junction of Newhampton Road West and Lloyd Street.

"The drivers of the two cars suffered minor injuries and two people in the offending car, a man and a woman, were arrested."

A 27-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of theft of a vehicle and have been taken into police custody.

West Midlands Fire & Rescue Service said the roof was cut from one of the cars as a precaution.

The road was closed while the clean-up operation took place but has now reopened.
