David Jukes, of Berry Avenue, Darlaston, was almost twice the drink drive limit when the smash happened on Lunt Road, Bilston just before midnight on January 17.

The crash involved three parked vehicles and two moving vehicles, causing one man to be taken to New Cross Hospital with his injuries.

Jukes, 36, pleaded guilty to drink driving at Wolverhampton Magistrates' Court.

When stopped by police, it was discovered that Jukes had 61 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Chief magistrate Janet Bird fined Jukes £250 and banned him from driving for 16 months. He was also ordered to pay a £25 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.

She said: "Your co-operation and early guilty plea are much appreciated and so this level of disqualification is the lightest we can afford you."

It was also agreed that Jukes would take part in a drink driving awareness programme, which would reduce his disqualification by 16 weeks if completed.

Roger Blezzard, prosecuting, said: "Mr Jukes had been drinking and smelled of alcohol when pulled over by police."

Dawn Foxhall, defending, said the accident was something Jukes regretted and was out of character. She said: "To this day, the defendant doesn't know why he decided to drive home that night."
