Taxi driver and passenger cut free after Walsall smash

A taxi driver and his passenger had to be cut free after a two car smash in Walsall.

The roof and door of the taxi had to be cut away after it was involved in a crash with a BMW.

Three people were involved in the accident on the A4148 Pleck Road between St John's Road and Vicarage Terrace at 1.30pm today.

Fire crews from Walsall attended and cut free the male taxi driver and female passenger.

The driver, thought to be in his mid 30s suffered lower back pain and crews removed the roof of the vehicle.

The female passenger, also mid 30s was freed from the car, after crews cut off the back door.

West Midlands Ambulance Service sent two ambulances, a rapid response vehicle and an officer to the scene.

The two patients were taken to Walsall Manor Hospital and their injuries are not thought to be critical.

The male driver of the BMW was assessed on the scene for a minor head injury.

West Midlands Police also attended and the road was closed at Wellington Street for 90 minutes.
