Pair charged after salesman dragged along trying to stop theft of car

A man and woman have appeared in court charged with the attempted theft of a car after a salesman was dragged along while he tried to stop the vehicle from being stolen.

The pair were charged in connection with the incident at Stourbridge Motor Company on February 5.

Reuben Hylton was also charged with 18 other offences dating back to December 8, 2014. The 24-year-old was charged with six counts of stealing motor vehicles from forecourts across the West Midlands; eight counts of driving while disqualified; two counts of making off without paying for petrol; one count of assault; and another charge of breaching an anti-social behaviour order.

Hylton of Princip Street, Birmingham,was arrested alongside Meryl DaCosta, a 26-year-old woman from of Boscombe Road, Tyseley. She was also charged with a separate crime of robbery, which took place in Walsall on January 30.

Following their appearance, Hylton was remanded into custody and is next due before Birmingham Crown Court on March 20. DaCosta was bailed with strict conditions.
