The office of Charter Care, which provides care for 200 people across Wolverhampton, was left in ruins after the fire started in the early hours.

Firefighters from Fallings Park station were called at 4.06am to the blaze, in Linthouse Lane, Ashmore Park.

As crews assessed the scene, further help was called in from Willenhall fire station, leading to 35 firefighters trying to combat the flames at its height.

Charter Care office manager Angela Hartil said: "When I was told what had happened at first I didn't know what to expect.

"It has destroyed our base and the files we have there to keep track of records are all gone."

Gas and power to surrounding streets has been temporarily cut.

The fire left minimal damage to the windows of its neighbouring buildings, including engineering service company Swagemaster, whose staff say they will be unable to work tomorrow.

Further investigation is being carried out to determine the cause of the fire.
