A 32-year-old was standing on a street when a man ran towards him from the rear and pushed him over leaving him with severe head injuries.

The assualt in Summer Row, Birmingham, took place in the early hours of December 27.

PC David Sherlock, from Birmingham's Violent Crime Team, said: "This seemingly senseless attack has caused a great deal of pain to the victim and his young family which will affect him for the rest of his life.

"It is entirely plausible that the man involved is not aware of the severity of injury he has caused to an innocent man and may have been intoxicated at the time.

"We are appealing to the better nature of this man or anyone who knows who he might be to come forward to speak to us so that we can progress this matter and come to a suitable resolution for all parties involved."

Anyone with information should call the police on 101, or alternatively people can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
