He described it as a 'bit of a chinwag' with the fans - those who used to chant his name from the stands.

Baggies legend Bob Taylor made a special appearance at a pub in Tipton, where he spoke about his career highlights.

More than 100 football fans packed into The Lounge on Saturday night to hear stories and quirky anecdotes from the former centre forward, affectionately known as 'Super Bob'.

The fans favourite enjoyed two successful spells at the club and made more than 300 appearances in that time.

"I like doing these pub appearances," he said. "It's a chance for me to have a bit of a chin wag with the fans. It's a bit like coming to the pub with my mates."

Super Bob played 238 times for the Baggies between 1992 and 1998 and then again between 2000 and 2003, playing 86 times. He netted 113 goals for the side.

He also played for Bolton, Leeds and Kidderminster during his career.

Now he makes personal appearances at pubs and other venues mainly in the Midlands.

He said coming up against fans from rival side Wolves at this sort of event was not a problem, admitting that he enjoyed sharing banter with them.

He continued: "At a place like this you get a mixture of Baggies fans and Wolves fans. "The Wolves fans will ask questions to try and wind me up but I give it back to them as good as I get it.

"People that come to these events know me as a footballer but not as a person so this is a chance for me to show them that side."

Super Bob also gave his personal views on the team's disappointing performance so far this season and he signed books and shirts for his fans.

Pub landlord and licensee Major Kheela said the evening had gone extremely well.

He said: "It went really well. We had quite a few new faces in. It was a great evening. There was a great family atmosphere.

"A lot of people got involved and asked questions. Bob had a great time."

Mr Kheela said the venue was hoping to book more well-known sporting faces in the near future and said it could become a monthly event.
